Moving, with the brain imagining you are running or jumping fast, but the body only moving slowly.

Moving, with the braining imagining you are standing or sitting still, but the body is moving.

The two moving, physically is the same speed and range, but observe how the imagining changes the physical sensations, and how does it affect the efficiency or the amount of energy we use.

For example, sometimes we are sitting in a bus but thinking about something that just overwhelms us, we can start sweating but actually we are just sitting in the bus.

In two:

Massaging partner with hands, really massaging into the flesh, be sensitive to the skin. The one being massaged just feel, letting the flesh melt, feel free to shift weight or let the movement of massage echo in your body. Let be, explore how the experience still moves your body. Echoes inside. The other observe how the partner explores and make it their own.

Switch.

When both have experienced. Be on your own, and invite the movement that is already there. Easy, with pleasure, if it is hurting then don't do. Move with ease, can be faster but still with ease.

One is floating, moving with energy, the other is observing and with generosity and love, touch with hand the place that is not moving or blocked in the body. First give space and time to go into movement, then touch. Slowly increase touch, and let the echo overlap. Then let be for the one being touched to explore more of this in the body.

Switch.

One is standing still, the other initiate a force into the partner's body. Ride on the force, and the partner initiates another and another. Overlap the forces, but don't let the body collapse, it is still full of energy and texture and floating. Increase the initiating of forces, faster, and overlapping the movements more. Then Let be to experience more.

Notice the skin can separate from the bones. Pull the skin and slide between the bones.

Move, inside the pulling of skins, big skin. The skin is stretching, like a big suit.

"MAKO": Giving in, surrendering, letting go without collapsing.

Exercise 1 for 2 people- One moving and floating. The other surrendering and sensing the space and energy around. Sensitive with all the skin, letting the energy penetrate you without touching.

Exercise for 1- Tendu practice. Shifting weight from one leg to another, sensitive toe and sensitive touch to the first touch of the ground. When shifting weight, pica is lifting, the other foot pushing the ground, penetrating the whole body then giving weight to the toe, then to the ground.

 

Exercise 2 for 2 people- Two hands touching, pushing and receiving. The receiving let the much penetrate with the whole body including the head, the neck, the arms, the shoulder blades, the spine, the waist, the pelvis, the legs, the angles, the toes...... Pushing from the floor, turning vertical forces into horizontal forces. Pushing the other with every part of the body. Stay grounded. How much strength and explosive power can you take from the floor and use?

Exercise for 1- One person but using the experience and body memory of the 2 people exercise. Use the push from the floor to create explosive moments. Snap into movement. You can be hardly moving but ready to snap.

Systematically, tracing with 16 clear directions.

Tracing with points in the body, unsystematically. Overlapping tracing in different body parts. Play with the size of the ball , play with textures of the trace, play with tracing and moving into new space, play with starting new traces without finishing.

Resisting v.s. Receiving. Hands, chest, more areas of the body.

Touching one place on partner's body, changing texture from the spot. Let the texture travel, be clear where the texture goes, where it is thick, and the place it leaves return to soft and fluid.

Closed eyes, texture travels from one spot to another by touch, increasing speed, overlapping.

Being very weak and using 100% of the engine to move. Survival.

v.s.

Having a strong engine and using 30% of the engine to move. Efficiency.

Being weak and using only 50% of the engine to move.

Even when using 30% of engine, the whole body stay sensitive and aware. Nowhere is numb. 

 

What is the range of my engine size? Is it possible to exaggerate more? To be clear how much of the engine I use in what condition. Can I keep the energy radiating even when I only use 15% of the engine?

When we are weak and we can not move but trying to move to survive. How does it feel? Physically and mentally. The physical sensation triggers an uncomfortable emotion. This emotional and physical unfamiliar territory. A space we rarely tap into. As a dancer, and as a person who is exploring one's capability, trying to unveil one's deeper potentials, are you willing to go into that space knowing it could be uncomfortable?

Yes.

Let the bones decide how far the body gets(practice with trendus, and practice stretching the bones/using the muscles to carry the bones. Notice the sensation and compare the actual difference of distance.), not let the muscles tense up to hold the bones. Hence stretching the bones inside flesh. Finding the gap between them. The distance of how far the bones stretch increase. If you feel the difference now, imagine after six month, how much more you can pull.

 


Day 49/60

Massage but let the energy moves through the rest of the body, keep the Lena active to support lower back, and so the organs don't collapse inside. Let the massaging travel, not just massaging in one place.

 

Find ball movements in the sit bones. Find ball movements in both heels. Let the four of them working, initiating the movement in the body. Then starting to add ball movement in lower ribs...

 

Lie on the ground. Find ball movements in shoulder blades, head.

 

Lifting the back, keeping only sitting bones and head touching the ground and initiating the movement.

How can you massage the head with the ball movement?

 

Lie facing to the ground, arms supporting upper body. The lower ribs are touching the ground, find ball movement here. Then in the chest. 

Lifting the body, but the head, knees and arms are touching the ground, supporting. Find ball movements from these supporting places.

 

Allowing change of momentum, sometimes fast sometimes slow. Use ball movements everywhere.

Sending the energy:

Into the floor, giving in to gravity. Even when being still, there are things traveling. Focus on the energy, imagine energy leaving your body, from the core through your every pore of your skin. Send the energy away from you, let it reach far. Open your eyes.

Reverse it. Now absorbing the energy from outside, taking in, into your core. Close your eyes. It is a state very similar to sleep.

Reverse it again.

Find this traveling energy in the body, in many places, not just in one. Let it move you. Don't just focus in one place. Allow them to happen in many places at the same time. Press into the floor, give in, to move. Keep sending the energy away, spread into space.

If water falls on the floor, gravity turns into horizontal forces, the water spreads on the floor. Let the body not be taken by gravity, let it spread in the space, expanding.

Slowly find your way up, keep this flow of energy moving even when standing. This openness, reaching far, giving and continue opening.

 

The moment of wow:

When looking at an amazing sunset. When tasting something delicious.

When dancing some complicated dance? Can it only happen when dancing difficult dance? Can it happen when we are doing something that is so simple? 

Find the moment of wow in you. Try doing very little, but let there be wow. It doesn't need to be beautiful in the form, but when you are in the moment of wow, you are beautiful.

 

Drumming and singing:

Drumming to invoke pain. This temporary physical pain from hitting the skin. Really do drum. Even with an emotion, like anger. The drumming is fast, short. It is cutting, breaking. 

Now sing together. And not let the singing be taken by the drumming. Sing with a vast feeling, radiating. Singing is like the energy spreading from you to the world, it is the same as when we meditate with the body. Sing and give so much, give so much of love. Sing with drumming, keep opening when physically feeling the pain, not let the pain stop you from giving and loving.

Setting a default:

Floating, not taken by gravity. Play with parts taken by gravity and parts not. Check every part of the body.

Let energy travel in you and through you, penetrating you.

 

Focused awareness and vast awareness:

Dance to someone, someone dearest to you, even more dear to yourself. Dance to him, be totally focused on him, but keep awareness of the rest of the world. Still be open to the space behind you, the people moving in space, the sounds, the music. Stay deeply connected to him, and stay alert and aware of everything else. And keep dancing.

 

Being the centre of the world v.s. Being a part of the world:

Dance like you are the centre of the world. Then dance like you are a part of the world.

You are always a part of the world. Let the awareness expand.

1.

You don't try to create all the movements, it is so much work, and it is so much tension in the body.

You simply "let go" into movement. Let it happen. It is already in you.

 

2.

Touching the lower ribs in the front chest, feeling the spine inside moving in relation to the ribs.

Touching the back of the ribs. Do the same. See how the spine can move.

 

'Float' your rib cage from the inside, like a balloon, and still be free in the chest, shoulders, arms, pelvis and legs. How does it change the way you move? 

Drop the rib cage back to place. See the difference in how you move.

 

3.

Bending knees, becoming lower to the ground. Finding movement in the pelvis, knees, ankles. 

Keep letting go. Let the movement just happen. Keep listening.

Now let the movement travel from your feet to only the pelvis, keep the upper part of the body floating.

Let the movement travel to your waist. 

Let the movement travel to your rib cage, to your chest.

Let the movement travel to your shoulder.

Let the movement travel to your neck.

To your arms,

In every molecule, like water, like electricity, like fire.

Let it penetrate through you, from your feet upwards.

Finally let it travel through your head. It passes through your head, it keeps traveling into the space above you.

Let go and let the movement take over you.

Let it expand into the space around you.

Keep letting go, allowing more and more.

Lying on the back. Float the arms in the air.

Lifting one arm higher, see the distance between the shoulder blades and the ground.

Try lifting the other arm.

Play with the space that keeps changing there. How are the arms effected by the changing space.

 

5.

Walk.

Walking.

Walking in space.

And keep asking yourself what is making this happen?

It's only the legs that moving you?

The back of your knee is also activated,

the skin of your arms is also involved in this walking,

your neck, 

the ears,

find more places in your body that is activated in this walking.

All of them working together to walk.

Feel that they are very alive, you don't need to do anything more, just see that they are very much alive.

 

Now they are working together to let this walking happen.

Then, try isolating them, let them work individually, in its own directions. Like they have a mind of its own. 

Allowing so much happening on its own in the body.

 

6.

Try, with the arms in the air. Using only one engine to activate them. Only one engine.

Then try with many engines working together.

 

Try with the whole body, only one engine.

Then try with many engines. All happening together.

 

Try one engine, amplify it. Then take it down, lower the volume.

Try with many engines, amplify. Let go to allow them to happen naturally. Then take them down again, lower the volume, but keep them alive, just more contained inside you. Less visible, but they are very much active.

味蕾之舞。

猶太人安息日的預備,加上同性戀遊行日,街上到處都是人。

早上在家附近散步,逛進了超市。最愛逛超市了!從食物能看見當地人的生活,我站在整櫃的新鮮醬料前徹底的被迷住了,五顏六色繽紛的醬料讓人想一一品嚐,配麵包嗎?煮麵搭配的醬汁嗎?沙拉的調味嗎?腦海裡浮現出各種料理的畫面。但是醬料旁邊寫的全是希伯來文,總不能整櫃買回家試吧!心裡盼望著有一天能嚐嚐各種醬料做出的料理,下次來超市就知道要買什麼了。

離開超市不到一百公尺願望就實現了,我走進一間小餐廳,桌上擺滿各種醬料做成的新鮮料理,全是蔬菜、水果、根莖類與香料植物的料理,以Buffet的形式,我每種都夾了一口,想嚐遍所有味道。這是味蕾的天堂,香料、醬料與新鮮食材美好的結合,每一口都是驚喜,酸的、甜的、軟的、脆的、涼的、溫熱的,食物豐富的口感在嘴裡跳舞。

我沒有回到超市,反而想到昨天室友帶我去的市集,市集裡瀰漫香料的味道,也許可以在那裡找到想要的食材。

事實上市集更貼近人,有一種親切的生活感。我喜歡跟著人走,看看當地人去哪裡買東西就跟著去看,最後來到這間小店,裡面熱絡的擠滿了人,店員正讓一位客人試吃醃菜,隨後也主動切了片起司給我試吃。很喜歡這裡從容、溫馨的感覺,而且我找到了想要的醬料與食材。

特拉維夫,佈滿光影的城市,神秘、古老又充滿生命力。

抵達當天下午,迫不及待拜訪Suzanne Dallal Centre,未來兩個月每天滋養我身體的空間。一想到dance floor,整個人精神都來了。

從幾個月前就開始「想像」這個地方,緊鄰地中海的城市,充滿海洋的祝福。我想像這裡的艷陽、植物,想像自己在這裡跳舞的樣子,汗水直滴,盡情跟自己身體在一起的畫面。真正行走於城市巷道裡時,我的想像,填進了更多細節:植物的氣味、豔麗而盛開的花叢、海風吹在耳後舒服的感覺、古老屋子之間的緩慢步調,還有午後陽光照在皮膚上的辛辣。「想像」在此成為「真實」,我走進自己的想像裡跳舞。
